Cruise Port in Nassau Receiving Radical Transformation

One of the least popular cruise ports in the Bahamas/Caribbean is about to get a major facelift as Global Port Holdings Limited was selected as the preferred bidder to redevelop the cruise port in Nassau.

The $250 million project will include berths for an additional two cruise ships, an auditorium for concerts that can hold up to 10,000, an outdoor movie theater, and a landmark modern new building.

A tram service will transport passengers from the cruise ships to the port area making the trip out of the port area easier and faster.

The goal of Global Port Holdings is to make a port in Nassau that people want to come to. Port Nassau will be a cruise destination unlike any other. Upon arriving, cruisers will enjoy a fantastic modern waterfront that will rival any cruise port in the Caribbean.

The Minister of Tourism in the Bahamas said that this project will create a sense of space and openness and eliminate the “harassing type environment” that many cruisers face when they stop in Nassau.

The port will feature open, upscale restaurants and large LED signs. It will have unique architectural features that will make Port Nassau iconic as a cruise destination.

Once completed, Port Nassau will be a complete transformation from what it is like today.

A timeline for completion of this transformation of Nassau has not yet been released. An official agreement with the government is pending due to negotiations.  However, Global Ports Holding Limited was unanimously selected by the Evaluation Committee.

  1. its about time, I have been there about 8 times and was disappointed, the last time in december was better due to a cab operator that made our trip enjoyable. The port sucks but with what I see here its going to be a spectical of greatness.
