Earlier this morning, a fire broke out on Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas when the ship was pulling into a scheduled stop in Falmouth, Jamaica.
The ship experienced a fire in a mechanical space and black smoke was seen coming from ship. Royal Caribbean said that the fire was contained and extinguished, and all systems are functioning. It is still unknown what damage was done to the ship. The ship is currently docked along the pier in Falmouth.
Joe Chaffee, a passenger on Freedom of the Seas, posted on Twitter that the crew did an awesome job controlling the fire and keeping passengers calm. In an abundance of caution, all passengers were sent to their muster stations. No passengers were injured and all guests have been accounted for. One crew member was treated for first degree burns.
Freedom of the Seas is currently on a seven night cruise to the Western Caribbean that left out of Port Canaveral on Sunday. Falmouth is the second of four scheduled stops. Cruise Fever will continue to monitor this breaking store and will have any updates as information becomes available.
