Update: One crew member who was injured in the accident has passed away.
Original Article: The Royal Gazette is reporting that a lifeboat fell from a cruise ship docked in Bermuda earlier this morning sending four people to the hospital.
A lifeboat was left dangling by one wire after it broke from Norwegian Breakaway earlier today during a routine lifeboat drill. This resulted in four people falling into the water. All four were pulled out of the water with one of them in critical condition, according to a spokesman for the Bermuda Maritime Operations. All four of the injured were crew members.
An investigation is currently underway with the Bermuda Police. The 4,000 passenger Norwegian Breakaway arrived in Bermuda this morning and is scheduled to stay docked until Friday. The cruise ship is on a seven night cruise to Bermuda that left New York on Sunday.
Norwegian Cruise Line issued a statement saying that they are providing full support and care to the crew members involved and are working with local authorities to investigate the incident. The ship’s on board medical team provided immediate care before the four crew members were taken to local hospitals.
Cruise Fever will continue to monitor this breaking story and will have any updates as more information becomes available. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those involved in the accident.
