Have you ever dreamed of living on a cruise ship? Then you’ll want to know about a cruise ship that’s called The World. The World is not your average cruise ship though. There are over 130 families that actually live aboard this cruise ship in their comfortable suites, some having up to three bedrooms.
The 44,000 gross ton cruise ship is an actual home to these families, but the ship does not just sit in port and not go anywhere. The ship has already visited over 140 countries around the world and its residents are able to enjoy seeing amazing sights around the world while sleeping in the comfort of their own homes every night. The World is continually circumnavigating the globe and visiting new destinations to the delight of the residents on board.
The ship was launched in 2002 and at 644 feet long, the ship’s website actually refers to itself as the largest private yacht in the world and the “most exclusive floating city on the planet”. The residents vote on the ports and itinerary that the ship will visit in the upcoming season.
There are 165 residences laid out on the 12 decks on the ship. 106 of them are apartments with the rest being studios.
The World offers many of the same amenities that typical cruise ships offer, and there is an even greater sense of luxury aboard this vessel. With three staffers for every cruise passenger the ship makes sure that each cruiser is taken care of.
Many of the apartments aboard the ship have been designed by the cruise ship residents, but they are not cheap. To enjoy this mobile and adventurous lifestyle, it will cost you between $2-15 million. But for a view that is always changing from one spectacular sight to another, and to be able to enjoy stress-free traveling to exotic locations, the families aboard the World have decided that the price is well worth it.
Along with amenities like a spa, gym, library, restaurants, and golf greens, the World even offers a market and deli so you can do your grocery shopping if you feel like doing some cooking yourself.
With just around 200 residents on board the 44,000 gross ton cruise ship, the residents are able to enjoy more space and fewer crowds than the typical cruise experience offers.
Outfitted with a team of leading industry experts – often 20 or more – The World’s Expeditions provide Residents & Guests with an enriching experience that is unparalleled – both onboard and off. The team engages them with meaningful discussions on the culture, natural environment, history, and flora and fauna of each leg on every Expedition.
Armed with that knowledge, Residents & Guests explore some of the most fascinating destinations, often participating in local customs, witnessing wildlife up close, and embarking on record-breaking adventures. Expeditions occur one to three times per year.
Expeditions include Greenland, Namibia, and Antarctica.
This may not be the life for everyone, but for those with a little extra money wanting to enjoy their golden years in the lap of luxury, it can’t get much better than sailing the high seas right from your home.
