Princess Cruises has confirmed another 39 cases of Coronavirus on Diamond Princess. Passengers on the cruise ship will remain in quarantine until February 19 unless there are unforeseen developments.
The cruise line is following guidance from the Japan Ministry of Health on plans for disembarkation protocols to provide medical care for these new cases.
Princess Cruises is giving all passengers on the cruise a full refund that includes air travel, hotel, ground transportation, pre-paid shore excursions, gratuities and other items. In addition, guests will not be charged for any onboard incidental charges during the additional time onboard.
Princess Cruises will also provide guests with a future cruise credit equal to the cruise fare paid for the voyage.
Princess Cruises also confirmed that although all gratuities will be refunded back to guests the cruise line will ensure crew members receive their designated gratuities for the work performed.
In addition, the crew members who are working on the cruise ship will receive a two month paid vacation following this ordeal.
The ship has been in quarantine for the past nine days and there were 2,666 passengers and 1,045 crew members on board.
