Carnival Says They May Have to Move Cruise Ships From U.S. Homeports

Carnival Cruise Line just canceled all cruises from U.S. ports through the end of June 2021 and talk about the possibility of moving cruise ships out of the country to resume sailings.

Carnival’s President Christine Duffy issued a video statement two weeks about about how Carnival is America’s Cruise Line and that they proudly sail from 14 different U.S. ports.

In a statement made to media today, Duffy said that Carnival is asking that the cruise industry be treated on par with other travel and tourism sectors.  The airline industry can operate at full capacity.  Hotels and theme parks are open across the country.  Every segment of the travel industry is open except for cruises.

However, the CDC will not give cruise lines the green light to sail, even though over 400,000 guests have safely cruised on cruise ships over the past 6 months in other parts of the world.

Duffy’s statement issued today regarding Carnival restarting cruises and the possibility of moving cruise ships out of the U.S. can be read below:

“We know that this is very disappointing to our guests who continue to be eager to sail, and we remain committed to working with the Administration and the CDC to find a workable solution that best serves the interest of public health. We are asking that the cruise industry be treated on par with the approach being taken with other travel and tourism sectors, as well as U.S. society at large.

“While we have not made plans to move Carnival Cruise Line ships outside of our U.S. homeports, we may have no choice but to do so in order to resume our operations which have been on ‘pause’ for over a year. We appreciate the continued patience and support from our loyal guests, travel advisors and business partners as we work on a return-to-service solution.”

All Carnival guests who were booked on one of the canceled cruises for June will receive a full refund or the option of future cruise credit with onboard credit package.
