Royal Caribbean has canceled port calls in St. Thomas. St. Maarten, and St. Kitts this week due to a tropical disturbance near the Caribbean St. Thomas Source is reporting.
Oasis of the Seas was originally scheduled to visit St. Thomas today and Freedom of the Seas was scheduled to visit on Wednesday (August 24). Royal Caribbean Blog is reporting that Oasis of the Seas will also skip a scheduled stop in St. Kitts, and will now call on San Juan, Puerto Rico and Labadee, Haiti.
Freedom of the Seas will also skip a stop in St. Maarten and will now head to the Western Caribbean with stops in Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico.
Royal Caribbean is taking precautionary measures as the tropical disturbance (Invest 99-L) has a 40% chance of strengthening into a tropical storm over the next 48 hours. The system is expected to pass over the Virgin Islands and will likely bring heavy rain to the region.
There are currently two other systems (Post-Tropical Cyclone Fiona and Tropical Storm Gaston) in the Atlantic Ocean but neither are expected to affect cruises. Both storms are forecasted to stay at sea and away from land.
Visit the National Hurricane Center for the latest information on all three storms.
Cruise Fever will continue to monitor this tropical disturbance and will have all updates if other cruise lines make changes to cruise itineraries.
