Carnival Addresses Concerns about Cruises to the Dominican Republic

Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador John Heald addressed concerns about cruises to the Dominican Republic after multiple media reports of deaths to tourists staying in resorts.

So far, there have been eight American tourists found dead in the Dominican Republic over the past few weeks.  This had lead many cruisers to ask whether it is still safe to take a cruise to the Dominican Republic.

Carnival’s John Heald, who uses his Facebook Page as a way of relaying information about the cruise line to his followers, posted that Carnival has currently made no changes to cruises to the Dominican Republic.

He went on to say that Carnival Cruise Line will always keep their guests safe and that they recommend that guests take excursions offered through the ship.  Carnival is also currently monitoring the situation and will routinely review information from the U.S. State Department.

When Carnival cruise ships stop in the Dominican Republic, they do so at the company’s private gated area in Amber Cove.

Carnival Corporation opened Amber Cove four years ago and it is used by several different cruise lines owned by the company.

It is worth noting that not one media report about the situation in the Dominican Republic has been connected to cruising.

Most of the deaths and illnesses that have been reported in the Dominican Republic were in or around resorts in Punta Cana.  Punta Cana is roughly 200 miles from the cruise port in Puerto Plata where Amber Cove is located.
