Carnival Cruise Line has raised the price of their internet plan by 60% that allows access to the most popular social media apps.
Carnival offers three different internet packages on their cruise ships: a social media package, a value WiFi plan, and a premium WiFi plan. While the latter two WiFi packages will stay the same price, the social media package will now cost cruisers a bit more money.
The new price for the social media package is now $8.00 per day, or $6.80 per day if pre-purchased before the cruise. Passengers can not purchase day passes for the social media package, they must purchase a cruise long pass. Carnival Cruise Line has the following description for this package:
“Access the most popular social websites and applications including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Linkedin, Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, SnapChat and the most popular airline sites. Does not include access to most websites and email. Does not support access to video and music streaming (such as Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, Pandora), iMessage or Skype. Cellular-network-dependent Wi-Fi calling and Facetime services are also not supported.”
This change in pricing went into effect on November 2, 2018.
The old price for the social media package was $5.00 per day, or $4.00 per day if pre-purchased.
The value WiFi package will continue to cost $12.00 per day, or $10.25 if pre-purchased. The premium WiFi package is $17.70 per day, or $14.88 if pre-purchased. 24 hour rates are available for these two plans and are priced slightly higher than the cruise long package rates.
Wish I would have known it was going up. It will cost us $34 each for the basic one for 5 days at $6.80 a day. And that’s if we buy it online, it cost $8 if we buy on board. I paid $20 last year for a 4 day.
Not really trying to be negative here but I’ve purchased all of the different packages of this wi-fi. If you MUST have it, just get the basic version and save your money. The pricier versions still only offer about as much speed as a herd of snails. 20th Century dial-up was faster. It took 45 minutes to download and print a boarding pass for my flight.
As of 8:30 PM on November 3, 2018 the Carnival Social Media Plan is still $4.00 on their website for advance purchase. Where did Cruise Fever get their information. Is this Fake News?
It looks like the roll-out is taking longer than the company expected, so enjoy the lower rates while they are still available.
Really a stupid idea. The social media package is free advertising for Carnival. They should offer it free to all passengers so they can benefit from all of the fun posts passengers will be sharing with the world. Someone needs to lose their job.
I just purchased mine for $4 per day $32 total for 8 days. I agree that it should be free.
