A Carnival Cruise Line ship has been unable to depart on her scheduled cruise due to heavy fog at the Port of Mobile.
Carnival Fantasy was scheduled to leave Mobile, Alabama on Thursday for a four night cruise to the Western Caribbean. As of Friday morning, the port remains closed to all outbound marine traffic and the ship remains in Mobile.
The cruise ship’s itinerary will need to be modified. The original itinerary had the ship visiting Cozumel on Saturday. Carnival has received approval to operate a cruise with only sea days since the new three day itinerary will no longer have time for a port stop in a foreign country.
Guests on board have the option of taking a shortened three day cruise and receive a 50% refund and a 50% credit towards a future cruise. Those who wish not to sail on the shortened cruise will receive a full refund.
Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador John Heald gave an update on Friday morning on his Facebook page.
Carnival Fantasy is Carnival’s oldest cruise ship. The 70,000 gross ton vessel went into service in 1990 and carries 2,052 passengers at double occupancy.
The cruise ship currently sails four and night night cruises to the Western Caribbean from Mobile. The four night cruises stop in Cozumel with the five night cruises adding a port stop in either Progreso or Costa Maya.
