Castaway Cay Bahamas Review and Tips

Castaway Cay
Castaway Cay

While most cruiselines now own private islands, none compare to Disney’s Castaway Cay.  Stopping at Castaway Cay doesn’t involve tendering, the ships can dock just steps from the beach.  This not only saves you time, but also can still stop at the island when tendering is unsafe.

The island is divided in 3 beaches, one for families, one for teens, and one for adults.  On the family beach, snorkeling gear can be rented for use in a 12 acre snorkeling paradise. You can save money by bringing snorkeling gear with you.  You can buy brand new sets on eBay for less than the cost to rent them.

There is a man made reef populated with fish, fossils and stingrays. They have 42 stingrays in their lagoon where guests can interact with and feed them.

The island has a tram that takes you down a runway from one part of the island to another.  At the end of the runway is the private adult beach where no one under 18 is allowed.  This beach is called Serenity Bay and is a mile long strech of beautiful white powdery sand.  There are 5 open air cabanas that offer massages.  This quiet, peaceful beach offers adults to get away from the children and give them a chance to relax and listen to nothing but the waves.

Castaway Cay does offer another thing that no other island can match.  Just off shore is the orginal Flying Dutchman from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.  Renting a sailboat can allow you to get up close and personal with this working set from the movies.
