How Would You Like to Live on a Cruise Ship?

The World

The cruise ship called “The World” has been getting a lot of buzz lately as it now sits in port in Seattle.  But this is not your average cruise ship.  There are over 130 families that actually live aboard this cruise ship in their comfortable and roomy 3 bedroom suites.

The 44,000 ton cruise ship is an actual home to these families, but the ship does not just sit in port and not go anywhere.  The ship has already visited 31 countries around the world, and its residents are able to enjoy seeing amazing sights around the world while sleeping in the comfort of their own homes every night.  The World is continually circumnavigating the globe and visiting new destinations to the delight of the residents on board.

The ship was launched in 2002 and at 644 feet long the ship’s website actually refers to itself as the largest private yacht in the world, but to us it looks more like a cruise ship.

The World offers many of the same amenities that more typical cruise ships offer, and there is an even greater sense of luxury aboard this vessel.  With 3 staffers for every cruise passenger the ship makes sure that each cruiser is taken care of.

Many of the apartments aboard the ship have been designed by the cruise ship residents, but they are not cheap.  To enjoy this mobile and adventurous lifestyle it will cost you around $13 million.  But for a view that is always changing from one spectacular sight to another, and to be able to enjoy stress-free traveling to exotic locations the families aboard the World have decided that the price is well worth it.

Along with amenities like a spa, gym, library, restaurants, and golf greens, the World even offers a market and deli so you can do your grocery shopping if you feel like doing some cooking yourself.

With just around 200 residents on board the 44,000 cruise ship the residents are able to enjoy more space and fewer crowds than the typical cruise experience offers.

This may not be the life for everyone, but for those with a little extra money wanting to enjoy their golden years in the lap of luxury, it can’t get much better than sailing the high seas right from your home.
