Norwegian Cancels Cruise Due to Propulsion Problem

Norwegian Cruise Line has canceled the April 12 sailing on the Norwegian Star due to a propulsion problem with the ship’s ABB Azipod system.

Guests who were scheduled to be on the April 12 sailing will receive a full refund and a 50% future cruise credit.  The cruise line will also cover any air and hotel change fees that guests will have to make due to the cancellation.

The Norwegian Star was originally scheduled for a 15 night cruise to the Panama Canal out of Los Angeles to Miami with port stops in Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Huatulco, Puerto Chiapas, Puntarenas, Panama Canal, Cartagena, and Ocho Rios.

The ship will remain out of service until April 26, 2015 so repairs can be made to the Azipod systems. Norwegian said a technical issue was to blame for the propulsion problem.  The Norwegian Star is a 91,000 gross ton, 2,350 passenger cruise ship that entered service in 2001.

  1. Seems like there is going to be some trouble with april 26 sailing as well, since the ship has to travel from LA to Miami, unless they are making the trip with out any passengers to get on time to Miami.
