Star of the Seas Hits the Open Ocean for the First Time

Royal Caribbean’s next new cruise ship, Star of the Seas, headed out to the open ocean for the first time to begin sea trials.

During sea trials, all technical areas of the ship are tested to make sure the vessel is sea worthy before entering service. 

Sea trials a series of rigorous performance tests on the cruise ship’s systems, machinery and engines. This will be done by more than 2,000 specialists that will conduct hundreds of tests onboard.

Star of the Seas will be pushed to the limit on propulsion, navigation, engine performance, and more.

Royal Caribbean released a short behind the scenes video of the ship’s sea trials that can be seen below.

Star of the Seas reached speeds up to 25 knots during the first few hundred miles of sea trials.

The cruise ship departing on sea trials marks a significant milestone in the vessel’s construction. Star of the Seas is currently under construction at a shipyard in Turku, Finland.

Star of the Seas will debut in August 2025 and homeport at Port Canaveral, Florida. The ship will sail seven-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean will all cruises visiting CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island in The Bahamas. (View Prices)
