Royal Caribbean has announced that Liberty for the Seas will be diverted to Miami, Florida due to the temporary closing of Port of Galveston.
The cruise line was hoping to dock the ship in Galveston today. However, due to Tropical Storm Harvey, the Port of Galveston will remain closed until Monday or Tuesday. Royal Caribbean has decided to sail the ship to Miami and has canceled the August 27 sailing.
Passengers who were booked on the canceled sailing will receive a full refund and a credit towards a future cruise. Royal Caribbean is planning on sailing the ship back to Galveston on Friday. The cruise line posted the following message regarding the cancellation:
“Royal Caribbean International is diverting Liberty of the Seas to Miami until conditions at the Port of Galveston permit safe travel. Due to port closure because of Hurricane Harvey, Liberty was not able to make her scheduled arrival into Galveston today. We anticipate Liberty will be able to return to Galveston on Friday, conditions permitting. We are doing all we can to help guests adjust their travel arrangements and appreciate their patience as we work through this.
The next sailing of Liberty of the Seas, scheduled for Sunday, August 27 has been cancelled, and all guests will have their fares fully refunded and have been provided a future cruise credit.”
