Cruise Ship Hits Smaller Ship and Dock in Venice

An ocean cruise ship ran into a smaller river ship and a dock earlier this morning in Venice.

The accident happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. local time. Videos of the crash show the cruise ship, MSC Opera, unable to slow its momentum and crash into a smaller boat and scrape the dock. Four people on the Uniworld river ship that was hit were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

What caused the cruise ship to ram the smaller ship and dock is unknown at this time. A tow cable from one of the two tugboats that was escorting the cruise ship broke at the time of collision.

Several videos of the crash were posted on Twitter and can be seen below. The videos show people running away as the ship approached the dock.
