When Royal Caribbean’s newest cruise ship Spectrum of the Seas made its debut a few weeks ago, the vessel featured the cruise line’s new Golden and Silver Suites.
I had the opportunity to take a cruise on Spectrum of the Seas last week. You can read about my first impressions here. The cruise ship is Royal Caribbean’s first Quantum Ultra class vessel.
About two weeks before my cruise when prices dropped, I upgraded to a Golden Jr. Suite on Deck 16, cabin 16552. The suite came with a ton of perks which you can see later on in this article. One great thing about this cabin location is that there are only five suites in the hallway. This meant there was little to no foot traffic and made it a great quiet location.
However, it did cause some inconvenience on embarkation day. Cabin cards (SeaPass) are picked up outside of staterooms. Since you need a SeaPass to enter the suite hallways, I couldn’t get to my cabin to pick up my card. I went down to guest services on Deck 4 to inquire about this and say said the hallways will be open for us to enter. After going back up to Deck 16, the door was locked and there was no one around to help. I had to head back down to Deck 4 where they finally gave me a temporary card so I could enter the hallway and pick up my SeaPass and WOW Band that were outside my stateroom.
It took me around a half hour of waiting in lines at Guest Services and going back and forth from Deck 16 to Deck 4 just to get in my stateroom. For the most expensive cabins on the ship, they need a better system on embarkation day.
However, I did love the suite and all of the perks that came with it. Here is a look at the suite and the new outdoor area (The Balcony) that is only accessible for guests staying in Golden Suites.
I had to use my GoPro HERO7 so I could get as much of the bathroom in the photo as possible.
The shower is on the right side and is separate from the full size tub.
The bathroom is split, with a toilet and sink in a separate room.
You can take a short two minute tour of my cabin in the video below.
One of the best benefits of staying in a Golden Suite is private access to The Balcony at the front of the ship on Deck 16 above the Solarium. You can see this area from the North Star.
This was a great place to get away from all the noise on the ship and during my cruise, it was almost always empty.
There is a restaurant and lounge for Golden Suite guests just behind the windows on the Balcony.
