Update: JAXPORT has reopened and Carnival Elation has entered the St. Johns River in Jacksonville.
Original Article: A Carnival Cruise Line cruise ship is currently delayed from entering JAXPORT due to heavy fog in the Jacksonville area. The port will remain closed until visibility improves.
Carnival Elation was originally scheduled to arrive back in Jacksonville earlier this morning but is currently waiting several miles offshore until the port can reopen. Weather stations from Jacksonville have reported that the fog has begun to lift in the area with an exception being around the coastal waters.
The cruise ship is returning from a five night cruise to the Bahamas after stopping in Nassau and Half Moon Cay (Carnival Corporation’s private island in the Bahamas). The ship is scheduled to leave Jacksonville this afternoon for another five night cruise to the Bahamas.
Embarkation will be delayed for guests who are boarding the cruise ship today.
