Update: Royal Caribbean posted the following update on Wednesday, November 6:
“We are pleased to report that all 46 guests and 58 crew member of the Celebrity Xpedition are safe, and the Xpedition is afloat and safely at anchor. Our guests are aboard Xpedition sister ship, Celebrity Flora, and Flora is underway to Baltra, where hotel accommodations and return flights home are being provided. We are grateful no injuries were reported from last night’s incident, and we appreciate those responders who stepped in to provide support to guests and crew. In appreciation for the inconvenience experienced, Xpedition guests will receive 100 percent refunds for their sailings and full cruise credits for a future Celebrity vacation. We’ve seen no signs of environmental impact and continue to monitor the situation closely. As we assess the condition of Xpedition and implement contingency plans, we will keep our guests informed regarding any cancellations or revised itineraries.”
Original Article: One of Celebrity Cruises’ expedition ships, Celebrity Xpedition, ran aground while sailing in the Galapagos yesterday.
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., the parent company of Celebrity Cruises, posted the following message regarding the ship’s grounding:
“Earlier this evening, Celebrity Xpedition ran aground while sailing her regular itinerary in the Galapagos. All guests and crew are safe, and we have no reported injuries. The ship’s 46 guests and non-essential crew are being evacuated to a nearby vessel as a precautionary measure and are being picked up by her sister ship, Celebrity Flora. We are unaware of any environmental impact at this point but will continue to check closely. We are assessing the ship’s condition and will update as needed.”
Celebrity Xpedition is one of three expedition cruise ships from Celebrity Cruises. The 2,842 gross ton ship entered service in 2001 and can carry up to 48 passengers.
The ship offers a variety of seven to 16 night cruises to the Galapagos.
