For the second day in a row, Royal Caribbean has canceled a cruise ship port visit to San Juan, Puerto Rico due to protests going on in the city.
Yesterday, Empress of the Seas was scheduled to visit San Juan but the visit was canceled. Today, one of the world’s largest cruise ships, Harmony of the Seas, bypassed San Juan and will remain at sea.
The cruise line said that due to protests that are going on in San Juan, they decided to cancel the port visits. Passengers on Empress of the Seas received the following letter onboard the cruise ship:
“You may have been looking out your window or surveying your surroundings on the pool deck and noticed we were almost in San Juan this afternoon and then turned around. There was a protest involving a large crowd that escalated and as you may have heard from our Captain, we decided to cancel our visit.”
So far, Royal Caribbean is the only cruise line to cancel port visits to San Juan. Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador John Heald said that the cruise line is currently monitoring the situation in San Juan. Carnival does not have a ship visit scheduled for San Juan until Sunday.
No other cruise lines have scheduled visits to San Juan until next Monday when Celebrity Cruises and MSC Cruises each have a cruise ship visiting the port.
