MSC Poesia was scheduled to depart from Miami on Sunday afternoon on an 11-night cruise to the Western and Southern Caribbean. As of Tuesday morning, the ship was still moored in Miami.

The U.S. Coast Guard stated they have detained the cruise ship with passengers on board while they inspect the ship. The Coast Guard said in a statement that they “are verifying the cruise ship’s compliance with international standards and U.S. regulations“.

They added that it is their priority to ensure the safety of everyone on board, from passengers to crew members to the environment.

The cruise line said that they are cooperating with the U.S. Coast Guard as the ship is inspected.

MSC Cruises gave the following statement about the ship being detained:

“The departure of MSC Poesia has been delayed while the U.S. Coast Guard conducts an inspection aboard the ship while it is docked in port.

“We are fully cooperating with authorities as they complete their inspection. As this process is ongoing, we are unable to provide further information at this time. We are keeping guests informed of updates regarding the ship’s anticipated departure and appreciate their continued patience and understanding.”
