Officials are saying that a 22 year old male passenger was seen jumping off the 12th deck of Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas at approximately 2 AM on Thursday.  The cruise ship was about 30 miles southeast of Key Largo at the time.

Crew members on the ship joined the U.S. Coast Guard in searching for the overboard passenger until 6:15 AM before heading back to Ft. Lauderdale.  The Coast Guard is continuing their search and it is unknown at this time why the passenger jumped off of the cruise ship.

Independence of the Seas was on a five night cruise to the Western Caribbean and stopped in the ports of Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico.  Cruise Fever will continue to monitor this breaking story and will have all updates when they are announced.
