I am thrilled as can be to announce that Cruise Fever will be joining Viking River Cruises on the #VikingSocial cruise that will take us from Nuremburg, Germany to Budapest, Hungary down the romantic Danube River.
Along with visiting cities like Nuremburg, Vienna, and Budapest we will be enjoying the festive spirit of this Yuletide season with Christmas markets all along the way.
While most of our readers are familiar with ocean cruises, the river cruising experience is a very different one that we are excited to share with you. The focus of a river cruise is not necessarily on the elegant ships but on the timeless destinations. We will be experiencing historical, cultural, and architectural marvels of the Old World, all while relaxing aboard a Viking Longship.
I love the idea of being able to explore Europe without ever having to fight traffic on a narrow roadway. The gentle Danube River will be our highway. And below you can see what our Viking ship will look like with this video tour.
This video details some of the sites we will see and experience along our journey. Not trying to make you jealous, but that’s an understandable reaction.
Here is the breakdown of the itinerary we will be taking. This information is from Viking River Cruises’ website.
Day 1 – Nuremberg, Germany
Welcome to Nuremberg, Bavaria’s second largest city. Transfer from the airport to your ship.* After boarding, you have free time to stretch your legs and explore the city a bit on your own.
Day 2 – Main-Danube Canal & Nuremberg, Germany
Your morning tour of Nuremberg includes the ruins of Zeppelin Fields, the Nazi parade grounds of the 1930s, and the Palace of Justice, the venerable vestige of the Nuremberg Trials. You have a brief stop at the courthouse before walking from the imperial castle grounds, past the Albrecht Dürer House and on to the Main Market Square of Old Town, enclosed within ancient city walls.
After lunch aboard your ship, join a lively and entertaining discussion of the European Union as you sail through the locks that comprise the Main-Danube Canal.
