Viking Takes Delivery of 96th River Cruise Ship

For the second time in two weeks, Viking has taken delivery of another new river ship. After taking delivery of Viking Sekhment, a new ship for the Nile River in Egypt, the world’s largest river cruise line has added another Longship to its fleet.

Viking Rota is Viking’s newest Longship and will offer cruises on the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers in Europe. It will sail some of the cruise line’s most popular itineraries.

These itineraries include the following:

  • Rhine Getaway
  • Grand European Tour
  • Danube Waltz
  • Tulips & Windmills
  • Christmas on the Rhine
  • Danube Christmas Delights

The 190-passenger ship is a state-of-the-art sister ship that features an elegant Scandinavian design that Viking ships are known for. It has a patented square bow that creates more space for guests on three full decks.

The indoor/outdoor Aquavit Terrace and the proprietary asymmetric corridor layout allow for true two-room suites.

Cruise fares include all dining, drinks during meals, one shore excursion in every port, specialty coffee, and WiFi.

With the addition of Viking Rota, Viking now has 96 river ships in its fleet. This number is expected to grow to 114 river ships by 2028.

In total, the cruise line expects to have a total of 142 river, ocean, and expedition ships in service by 2032.

Leah Talactac, President and Chief Executive Officer of Viking, gave the following statement:

“The delivery of the Viking Rota marks another milestone for our award-winning river fleet. As interest in river travel continues to grow, we remain focused on creating more opportunities for curious travelers to explore the world in Viking comfort. We look forward to welcoming guests on board this elegant new river vessel.”

Viking is not only the largest cruise line in the world, but it has also won more than 450 awards, including many years being named the World’s Best in river and ocean cruises.
