Viking Continues to Expand in Egypt, Adds Another New River Ship

Viking, the world’s largest river cruise line, has taken delivery of another new river ship custom-built to sail on the Nile River in Egypt.

Viking took delivery of Viking Sekhmet during a ceremony that took place at the Massara shipyard in Cairo, Egypt. The ship will sail the cruise line’s extremely popular 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.

Viking Sekhmet carries 82 guests in 41 cabins and is a sister ship to most of Viking’s fleet on the Nile. You can take a photo tour of these ships here.

The following is included in all cruises on Viking Sekhmet:

• One shore excursion in every port
• Free WiFi
• All onboard meals, drinks during meals
• 24-hour specialty coffees, teas, and bottled water
• Visits to UNESCO sites

The trip begins with a first-class three-night stay in Cairo so guests can visit the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum.

After the stay in Cairo, guests will board a charter flight to Luxor for the cruise portion of the trip. Guests will spend seven nights on the ship as it sails up and down the Nile River.

Guests will be able to visit the Temples of Luxor and Karnak, the tomb of Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings, and excursions to the Temple of Khnum in Esna, the Dendera Temple complex in Qena, the High Dam in Aswan, and a visit to a colorful Nubian village, where guests can experience a traditional elementary school.

When the cruise is over, guests will fly back to Cairo for one night before heading home.
