Hurricane Harvey, currently a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph, is forecast to be the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States in almost 12 years.
Hurricane Harvey is currently located 360 miles southeast of Corpus Christi, Texas and a hurricane warning is in effect for most of the Texas shoreline, including Galveston.
There are four cruise ships scheduled to depart from Galveston this weekend: Carnival Freedom and Carnival Valor on Saturday and Carnival Breeze and Liberty of the Seas on Sunday.
Although there have been no changes to itineraries out of Galveston at this time, a spokesman for Carnival Cruise Line told Cruise Fever that Carnival is closely monitoring the storm and they will let us know if any cruises need to be altered. We also reached out to Royal Caribbean concerning the sailing on Liberty of the Seas but have not heard back at the time of press.

Late last week, Norwegian Cruise Line altered this week’s itinerary for Norwegian Escape. The ship sailed a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean instead of the Western Caribbean to avoid the storm.
Hurricane Harvey is expected to linger over the Texas shoreline for several days causing storm surge flooding, high surf, and strong winds.
