Multiple media outlets are reporting that the Coast Guard is searching for a man who went overboard on a cruise ship near the Bahamas early yesterday morning.
The incident happened at approximately 2:45 a.m. when a 24 year old male passenger went overboard on Carnival Elation. His wife reported him missing when the ship arrived in the scheduled port stop of Nassau, Bahamas. She said she had last seen him around 2:30 am. It is unknown at this time what caused the passenger to go overboard.
The surveillance video on board showed the man going overboard around 2:45 am earlier that morning when the ship was about 15 miles southwest of Abaco, Bahamas. The ship contacted the Coast Guard and they immediately deployed a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane to begin a search and rescue mission.
Carnival Elation is currently on a five night cruise to the Bahamas out of Jacksonville, Florida. The ship is scheduled to arrive back in Jacksonville on February 16.
