The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a cruise passenger who went overboard on a cruise ship earlier this morning near Cuba multiple news outlets are reporting.
The 23 year old male passenger went overboard from the 8th deck on Carnival Victory at approximately 3 a.m. The ship was 33 miles northwest of Cuba at the time. It is unknown at this time what caused him to go overboard.
The crew on the ship immediately turned around, launched a search boat, and called the Coast Guard for assistance. An Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane is currently aiding in the rescue attempt. Cuban rescue authorities are also helping with the search due to the areas close proximity to Cuba.
Carnival Victory is currently on a four night cruise to the Western Caribbean out of Miami, Florida with one stop in Cozumel, Mexico.
