Authorities on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten have provided an update in the case of the missing American cruise ship passenger, Ms. Ann Evans. Original reports said the woman disappeared after a shore excursion last week.
After the Police Force of St. Maarten asked for help from the public and there was an island-wide search, authorities announced on Thursday that a woman matching the 55-year-old U.S. citizen’s description used her passport to check into a hotel on the French side of the island.
“She has also reportedly been seen in the surrounding area of that establishment,” the department wrote in a statement.
French and Dutch law enforcement, who had been conducting the search, are now working together to verify the information and make sure the woman is safe.
Disappeared in Marigot
Evans, a passenger on the Holland American Line cruise ship Rotterdam, was in the cruise port of St. Maarten on November 20, 2025.
According to the police, Evans left the ship around 10:00 AM for an organized island tour shore excursion. The tour bus made a stop in Marigot, which is on the French side of the island. Evans stepped off the bus there but did not return to the vehicle or to the cruise ship afterward.
Rotterdam is currently on a 21-day round-trip sailing out of Port Everglades which is scheduled to arrive back in its homeport on November 28.

Although a positive sighting has been confirmed, authorities are still working to make direct contact with Ms. Evans to verify her well-being.
The police have asked Ms. Evans herself that if she sees this message, she should immediately contact her family or the police to confirm she is safe.
