Carnival Issues Hurricane Isaias Update: 6 Ships Under Watch in Gulf

Carnival Cruise Line has issued an official weather update for Hurricane Isaias and tropical activity currently tracking through the Gulf of Mexico and Pacific. At least 9 ships are mentioned in the weather update, with 6 of them in the Gulf.

While most of the ships are still proceeding with original plans, they are all under watch and subject to change, which is why we recommend signing up for text alerts listed below.

Hurricane Isaias is now a Category 1 storm with sustained winds of 85 mph. While this hurricane season has been eerily quiet, it looks like Isaias could be the first hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. this year.

Current projections expect landfall late Friday evening, October 9, through early Saturday morning, October 10. Forecasts place landfall between Biloxi, Mississippi and Pensacola, Florida.

Carnival’s Fleet Operations Center in Miami is actively monitoring Hurricane Isaias along with Tropical Storms Rachel and Simon.

A lot of things are still in flux as the cruise line evaluates potential impacts on homeports and upcoming sailings, but this is the latest that we know.

Carnival highlighted that safety remains the top priority and ships will maintain a safe distance from all active weather systems.

Passengers scheduled to sail on any of these voyages are strongly advised to enroll in the designated text notification system to receive immediate alerts regarding route or terminal changes.

While some news outlets are saying the Gulf can expect 50-foot waves because of this storm, it’s important to note that cruise ships will not experience these conditions and will simply move around or avoid bad weather altogether if possible. Hurricane season often means a shift in a cruise itinerary or schedule, but it doesn’t have to mean a cancellation of a cruise.

Cruise Fever will keep this page updated as more information comes in and as any changes are made to ship itineraries.
