Carnival Cruise Line is the latest cruise line to announce that gratuity charges onboard their cruise ships are going up near the end of the year.
Effective on all Carnival cruises that depart on or after December 1, 2018, the onboard gratuity recommended charges will be as follows:
- Standard staterooms : $13.99 per day, per person
- Suites: $15.99 per day, per person
This is an increase of $1.04 per person, per day for standard staterooms and $2.04 per person, per day for suites. These recommended gratuities are automatically billed to onboard accounts unless they are prepaid before the cruise.
Future Carnival passengers that have a cruise booked after December 1, 2018, can prepay at the current rates as long as they do so before December 1. To prepay onboard gratuities, visit Carnival.com and access “Your Cruise Manager”. Then click on “Cruise Details” and “Add” under “Prepaid Gratuities”.
Passengers are free to remove or adjust gratuities at their discretion. However, this must be done before a passenger disembarks the vessel on the final day of the cruise.
100% of the daily recommended gratuity charges go directly to the shipboard team members that service you during your Carnival cruise.
Carnival Cruise Line’s daily gratuities are broken down between the following team members:
- Housekeeping team – $4.35 per day, $6.35 for suites
- Dining Team – $6.89 per day
- Alternative Services – $2.75 per day
This is the first increase in gratuity amounts by Carnival Cruise Line since June 2016. The cruise line previous raised gratuities in July 2014 and November 2011.
