Hurricane Patricia, the most powerful hurricane ever recorded, has altered at least one cruise itinerary to the Mexican Riviera.
Hurricane Patricia is currently a category 5 storm and has maximum sustained winds of 200 mph, with wind gusts up to 245 mph. The storm is moving north at 10 mph and is expected to make landfall in Mexico on Friday evening.
So far only one cruise line has had to alter an itinerary due to Hurricane Patricia. One of our readers who is currently at sea, let us know that Princess Cruises has canceled a port stop for Ruby Princess. The cruise ship was scheduled to stop in Cabo San Lucas on Friday but spent the day at sea to stay away from the storm. The ship will arrive back in Los Angeles on Sunday as scheduled.
Cruise Fever will continue to monitor this power storm and update this page if and when other cruise lines make changes to cruises. While it is rare that a cruise line will cancel a cruise due to a hurricane or tropical storm, they will often modify itineraries to keep the passengers and crew members safe. This may mean having an extra sea day or switching port stops.
