2 Cruise Passengers Rescued After Emergency at Sea

Multiple news sources are reporting that two cruise passengers were rescued from a cruise ship 60 miles off the coast of Virginia this weekend.

WAVY is reporting that the United States Coast Guard medevaced two male cruise passengers off the Norwegian Gem cruise ship early yesterday morning. Both passengers had experienced medical issues and needed prompt medical attention.

Both cruise passengers were taken to Sentara General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.  An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and a C-130 Hercules aircraft crew assisted in the rescue. They arrived at the scene and hoisted both passengers aboard shortly after 5:00 a.m..

Norwegian Gem is currently on a seven night cruise to the Bahamas and Florida. The ship departed from New York City on Saturday and will stop in Port Canaveral, Florida; Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay; and Nassau, Bahamas.
