Princess Cruises announced an addition to their Discovery at Sea program that brings the excitement of Shark Week to all of their cruise ships year round.
This new entertainment will feature onboard parties, premiere television content, giveaways, trivia games, and shark themed culinary bites and beverages. Jan Swartz, the president of Princess Cruise, gave the following statement:
“We know how wildly popular Shark Week is worldwide and we’re excited to bring even more fun, education and entertainment to our guests.
Through our Discovery at Sea partnership, we offer our guests exclusive themed activities and TV content we know they will enjoy.”
Shark Week at Sea will have activities for adults and kids that will educate, amuse, surprise, and “create an appreciation for these tremendously misunderstood denizens of the deep”.
Shark Week at Sea will feature the following activities:
Fish Stories About Sharks – The cruise staff will host this quiz style activity where passengers will learn amazing and interesting facts about sharks. The theme will be fun and humor so passengers can separate truth from “fish tales”.
Swim with the Sharks – Five rounds of challenges where passengers will take part in different fun, active, and hilarious challenges.
Guess the Number of Shark Teeth in the Jar – Just as it sounds, passengers will get an entry slip and try to guess how many faux shark teeth are in a strategically located jar.
Premiere TV Content – Shark Week airs on Discovery Channel July 5-12. Passengers on Princess cruise ships will get to watch sneak peeks of select trailers and promotional spots. They will also get a first look at Ninja Sharks, showcasing six sharks and their unique adaptations that have made them the most lethal of their kind.
Passengers on the following cruises will be treated to a limited time Shark Week offerings:
- Golden Princess June 21
- Golden Princess July 1
- Ruby Princess June 28
- Ruby Princess July 5
Shark Week Premiere Party – The blue carpet will be rolled out for the premiere parties that will live stream Shark Week content. There will also be giveaways and trivia games.
Bites & Beverages – The International Cafe will feature shark cookies during the milk and cookie hour. Princess pastry chefs will create shark cakes, and ice and fruit carvings. There will also be shark themed cocktails and custom drink koozies.
Entertainment – From onboard comedians to blackjack and craps tables wrapped in shark themed images, sharks will be the theme around the ship.
Decor & Giveaways – One elevator on each ship will be decked out in a way to appear that passengers are in a shark cage. Children 3-12 years old will receive a toy rubber shark at turndown and other special prizes will be given away that feature sharks. There will be crafts, temporary tattoos, t-shirt decorating, and face painting.
