Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has signed a memorandum of understanding to build a 5th Oasis class ship that will be delivered in the spring of 2021. In addition to the 5th Oasis class ship, the company has also ordered an additional two Edge-class ships for Celebrity Cruises.
Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean, gave the following statement:
“The Oasis-class ships have delivered beyond expectations each time. Harmony of the Seas’ warm reception is evidence that growing this class of ship will continue to drive exceptional performance for the brand.”
This order is contingent upon the completion of customary conditions, including documentation and financing. Final contracts, which include the definitive payment schedules, are expected to be completed within the quarter. Capacity increases for 2016 through 2020 remain unchanged.
The two additional Edge class ships for Celebrity Cruises will be delivered in 2021 and 2022.
Richard Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, gave the following statement about this order for three new cruise ships:
“The response to the arrival of Harmony of the Seas is staggering, eliciting excitement from eager cruisers from markets on both sides of the Atlantic, and Edge-class is one of the most highly anticipated new projects, following the high bar of Modern Luxury design set by its predecessor, the Solstice-class.”
The first Edge class ship from Celebrity Cruises is two years away from delivery. The Edge class ships “will not disappoint as a new generation of high style and design” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises. The cruise line now has four Edge class ships on order.
Cruise Fever will have complete details about these three new ships when they are announced.
