Fathom, Carnival Corporation’s 10th cruise brand and the first cruise line to offer impact travel, sailed a successful maiden voyage last week. After having a first hand experience of what Fathom is all about, here are 10 reasons why you should take a cruise on Fathom.
4 Days in Amber Cove – One of the benefits of taking a cruise to the Dominican Republic with Fathom is that you get to spend four days in Amber Cove, the newest cruise port in the Caribbean. Not only do you spend four days in port, the pool area is almost empty all week due to the ship only holding 700 passengers. Plus, many passengers are on excursions or impact activities at any given time.
The pool area has close to 1,000 loungers (our best estimate), a swim-up bar, cabanas over looking the pool area and ocean, and a zip line ($12 a day, unlimited rides) where you fly over the pool.
Immerse Yourself in Dominican Culture – Taking a cruise with Fathom will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in Dominican culture. I worked along side local women making crafts and recycled paper. I spent several hours in an elementary school teaching 5th and 6th graders English. Other passengers went into Dominican homes to teach conversational English and learning.
Since the ship is in port for four days, you also have the opportunity to go into town and dine at local restaurants and spend the “night on the town”.
Experience You Can’t Get Anywhere Else – Fathom is the pioneer is social impact cruising, and no other cruise line offers the experience that they do, or even close to it.
Brings Families Together – Take a cruise with Fathom and nothing will bring your family closer than working together to help others.
Small Ship Experience – Since Adonia is a 30,000 gross ton, 700 passenger cruise ship, maneuvering around the ship is a breeze. By the end of the week, the other passengers on board will feel like family.
Excursions/Impact Activities – Since you will spend four days in Amber Cove, you have the opportunity to not only partake in impact activities, but also take a number of excursions that include beach getaways, ziplining though the rainforest, catamaran snorkeling adventures, deep sea fishing, and a top 10 tour of Puerto Plata.
Impact Guides – The Impact Guides on Fathom offer valuable insight and information during enrichment and cohort meetings. With many of them previously serving in the Peace Corps, they have a heart to serve others so they can make a difference in the world.
Come Home Enriched – Take a cruise on Fathom and you will come home enriched, especially after the time you spend with the Dominican people.
Trip of a Lifetime – I cruise close to 10 times a year, but my voyage on Fathom ranks as one of the best cruises I have even taken. As one father (who was on board with his five sons) said, “This is the trip of a lifetime”.
Life is too Short to not Give Back – We live in a day and age when life is all about “me”. We post selfies on Instagram, photos of our food on social media sites, and pretty much everything we do on Facebook. However, life is not about us. It’s about using our resources to help those who are less fortunate. Life is a vapor and too short to not give back.
