Viking celebrated the float out for two new cruise ships that are being custom built for the Nile River in Egypt.

The float out of Viking Ptah and Viking Sekhment marks a significant construction milestones for the new ships. The float out took place at the Massara shipyard in Cairo, Egypt and the ships will now move to the final stage of construction, the interior build-out.
Both river ships will sail Viking’s popular 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.
Both Viking Ptah and Viking Sekhment will be sister ships to Viking Osiris, the Viking Aton, the Viking Sobek, the Viking Hathor, the Viking Amun and the Viking Thoth. All eight are custom built to sail on the Nile River.
Each ship has 41 staterooms that carry up to 82 passengers. They have the Scandinavian design that Viking is known for and are the most modern ships sailing on the Nile.
Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking, said the following:
“Egypt is truly a phenomenal destination, distinguished by its remarkable history, enduring culture and the singular power of the Nile. With the float out of our two newest ships, we look forward to further expanding our elegant fleet on the Nile and welcoming more curious travelers to experience this extraordinary region in the years to come.”
