Royal Caribbean has decided to put on hold upgrades on two cruise ships that were scheduled to receive new features later this year.
The Amplifications to Allure of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas will no longer take place as scheduled. The cruise line confirmed the changes on social media saying that it is the result of the global developments of COVID-19.
Royal Caribbean committed over a billion dollars into renovating 10 cruise ships over four years. The cruise line has currently completed six of those remodels with Freedom of the Seas being the last cruise ship to be upgraded.
Allure of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas were the last two ships that Royal Caribbean planned on upgrading this year.
Allure of the Seas was scheduled for a $165 million renovation with new features added to the cruise ship that included a 10 story slide, a trio of waterslides, a reimagined pool deck, and a new aquapark for kids.
Explorer of the Seas was scheduled for a $110 million renovation that would have added new restaurants, waterslides, and new activities for families.
Royal Caribbean has not given a new date when these new renovations will take place.
