Air traffic was brought to a standstill this afternoon as a shooter gunned down 5 and injured several others in the baggage claim area at Fort Lauderdale’s airport.

Flights were halted and cruise travelers are also experiencing delays.

Port Everglades acted quickly and tweeted that the port was temporarily closed.

According to Cruise Radio two ships were docked at the time of the airport shooting:

“At the time of the shooting, both Holland America’s ms Nieuw Amsterdam and Princess’ Caribbean Princess were docked, preparing for departure. But according to several sources, the departures have been temporarily delayed while the ships await passengers, some of whose flights were re-routed due to the incident at the airport.”

UPDATE:  Port Everglades has just reopened.
