Cruise Pier Reopens in Key West Five Months After Being Hit by a Cruise Ship

The Miami Herald is reporting that a pier that was hit by a cruise ship five months ago in Key West finally reopened this week.

This past November, the pier at Mallory Square was hit by the cruise ship Silver Spirit. After five months of repairs, the pier saw its first cruise ship dock there this week.

During the past five months, only five cruise ships had their port call at Key West canceled due to the damage pier. Since there are three piers for cruise ships in Key West, other ships that were scheduled to use the pier at Mallory Square were able to able to be accommodated.

Silver Spirit was leaving Key West on November 27, 2018 when high winds stopped it from turning around.

The cruise ship ended up hitting the pier, no one was injured and the ship was not significantly damaged. Damage to the pier was estimated at half a million dollars.
