Power Restored to Disney Cruise Ship After Power Failure

The Disney Magic briefly lost power and was dead in the water for a few minutes this evening off of the northern coast of Cuba as the ship was sailing towards Cozumel, Mexico according to a report by Scott Sanders at DisneyCruiseLineBlog.com.

Pete Werner, a passenger who is currently on the Disney Magic, posted on his Facebook page shortly after 5:00 p.m. about the outage and that a “huge puff of black smoke seen from the front of the ship followed by power failure”.

He followed this status update with another stating that power was fully restored and they were moving once again towards Cozumel.  He also said that he heard the maintenance staff saying that this happened on the Wonder in Alaska.

Reports from other passengers who are currently on the Disney Magic are stating that everything is fine after the brief power outage.  Dinner and shows all ran as normal and basic hotel functions (toilets) are working as they should.

Cruise Fever has reached out to Disney Cruise Line and received the following response:

” The Disney Magic very briefly lost power last night, and it was restored within minutes.   The ship is designed with redundancies including emergency lighting, which came on immediately.  We do not know what caused the brief power loss and are looking into it.”

Reports from other passengers who are currently on the Disney Magic are stating that everything is fine after the brief power outage.  Dinner and shows all ran as normal and basic hotel functions (toilets) are working as they should.

The 2,400 passenger Disney Magic is a 84,000 gross ton cruise ship that entered service in 1998.

The Disney Magic left Port Canaveral on Sunday for a 7 night cruise to the Western Caribbean with port stops in Cozumel, Mexico; Georgetown, Grand Cayman; Falmouth, Jamaica; and the cruise line’s private island in the Bahamas Castaway Cay.
