Carnival Cruise Lines is introducing new cruise fares that will go into effect on December 3, 2012. They will be adding four new fares in addition to the ones that they currently offer. The Fun Saver fare however will no longer be offered.
The new fares will be Fun Select Plus, Easy Saver, Super Saver, and Instant Saver. Carnival hopes that the new fares will give passengers more ways to save and offer more flexibility when booking a cruise. You will also be able to “trade up” from a lower fare. With increased competition from cruise lines building more cruise ships, Carnival hopes the lower entry-level price points will help lure passengers to sail with them.
Here is a brief rundown and explanation of the new cruise fares from Carnival that will go info effect on Monday, December 3.
The Super Saver fare is a discounted rate that requires a non-refundable deposit. You will pick the cabin type that you want and Carnival chooses your cabin for you. No changes are allowed to the reservation after booking. Cabins are assigned when you check in for your cruise.
The Instant Saver fare is similar to the Super Saver but is not available until closer to the sailing date. No changes are allowed to reservations and cabins are assigned when you check in for your cruise. The deposit is also non-refundable.
The Easy Saver fare is available after the Early Saver fare closes and allows you to choose your own cabin based on your personal preferences. If you cancel after paying the deposit and prior to final payment, you will receive a future cruise credit minus a $50 service fee per person. If the price drops after booking, you are not eligible for price protection and can not get the lower rate.
The Fun Select fare offers Carnival passengers the most flexibility and you are allowed to upgrade your cabin if you choose. You will also receive a free two category upgrade within your stateroom category based on availability (Balcony 7A will be upgraded to Balcony 7C etc). You can make changes to your reservation before final payment without any penalties that include ship and sail dates, name changes, and cancellations.
Fun Select Plus
The Fun Select Plus fare offers the one of the most flexible fares that also gives you a free SEVEN category upgrade within your stateroom category (Balcony 7A will be upgraded to Balcony 7G). The free upgrades are provided based on availability. Terms are similar to the Fun Select fare and offer free changes to your reservation before final payment.
In addition to these fares, Carnival will also be offering the Past Guest fare (free 2 category upgrades within your accommodation type) and the Early Saver fare that offers price protection if the cruise fare drops with a $50 change free.
Cruise Fever would love to hear your opinions on what you think of Carnival offering 7 different fares to choose from. Do you like the extra choices or would you rather just have one to choose from like the other cruise lines?
