Royal Caribbean has announced that they have placed an order for a 5th Quantum class ship that will enter service in 2020.
This 5th Quantum class ship will join sister ships Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas, and Quantum 4 (currently unnamed) and will be built at the Meyer Weft shipyard in Germany. The ship will be around 168,000 gross tons and carry over 4,000 passengers.
The homeport and itineraries for Quantum 5 will be announced in the future. It will likely be a few years since the cruise line has yet to announce the homeport and itineraries for Quantum 4. Next year, Ovation of the Seas will join Quantum of the Seas in China. Anthem of the Seas arrives in her homeport of Cape Liberty, New Jersey for the first time tomorrow.
The Quantum class ships have been extremely popular with cruisers and have brought many new features to the cruise industry. They include the North Star, Two70 Lounge, the versatile SeaPlex, robot bartenders, virtual balconies on all inside staterooms.
