There is good news for cruisers who are looking for a new port to visit in the Caribbean. Amber Cove, a cruise port developed by Carnival Corporation, opened today when Carnival Victory made the first cruise ship visit to the port. The port is in the area where portions of the original Jurassic Park movie was filmed.
Carnival Corporation’s newly developed cruise port, Amber Cove, located on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic, welcomed its first ship this morning. Carnival Victory, from the company’s Carnival Cruise Line brand, pulled into Amber Cove with nearly 3,000 guests. Located on the northern coast of the Dominican, the Amber Cove port serves as a gateway to the Puerto Plata region, known for its history, diverse beauty and beaches.
As the newest destination in the Caribbean, the world’s most popular region for cruise vacations, the port’s opening marks the return of regular cruise ship visits to Puerto Plata for the first time in nearly 30 years. Overall, eight of Carnival Corporation’s 10 global brands will make calls to Amber Cove in coming months. The official opening of the Amber Cove port will be held on Nov. 2 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Carnival Corporation brands that are scheduled to visit Amber Cove are Carnival Cruise Line, Cunard, AIDA, Costa Cruises, P&O Cruises, and Holland America Line.
