Carnival Cruise Line announced this morning that they will be returning to Mobile, Alabama in late 2016. Carnival Fantasy will sail four and five night cruises to the Western Caribbean from the Mobile Cruise Terminal starting in November 2016.
Before Carnival Fantasy arrives in Mobile, the 25 year old cruise ship will undergo a multi-million dollar drydock and receive several of the 2.0 Fun Ship upgrades. Upgrades will be:
- Guy’s Burger Joint
- RedFrog Rum Bar
- BlueIguana Tequila Bar
- BlueIguana Cantina
The four night cruises will have two sea days and a stop in Cozumel, Mexico. The five night cruises will have an added stop in Progeso, Mexico.
Excitement over Carnival returning to Mobile has grown over the past few weeks after news first spread that the cruise line was in talks to bring a cruise ship back to the city. A Facebook group, “Mobile Carnival Cruisers“, was started and has since grown to almost 1,800 members.
Christine Duffy, President of Carnival Cruise Line, gave the following statement:
“Carnival Fantasy’s four and five-day cruises from Mobile provide consumers with an affordable way to visit stunning Mexican ports from a convenient homeport while offering our valued travel agent partners an exciting new short vacation option to market to their clients.
We’ve been working very closely with the port and city officials to make these cruises a reality and wish to thank Mayor Stimpson and his team for not only all their hard work but also for creating a welcoming and positive environment that makes these cruises an attractive option for today’s consumers.”
The first Carnival Fantasy cruise out of Mobile will depart on November 9, 2016. This will be the first cruise out of Mobile since 2011.
