Update June 7, 12:00 pm: Carnival Paradise has been cleared to leave port and will now sail a four night cruise to the Western Caribbean.
Original Article: Tropical Storm Colin, the 3rd tropical storm of the year, has delayed a Carnival cruise ship from leaving Port Tampa Bay.
Tropical Storm Colin currently has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and is moving north-northeast at 23 mph. TS Colin is currently loacted in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to make landfall this evening over the northern part of Florida. Tropical storms become hurricanes when maximum sustained winds are greater than 74 mph.
Due to the storm and current weather conditions, the United States Coast Guard has closed Port Tampa Bay until the weather clears. Carnival Paradise was scheduled to leave this afternoon on a five night cruise to the Western Caribbean. The itinerary for the cruise has been reversed and the cruise will now stop in Cozumel, Mexico and then Grand Cayman. Carnival Paradise won’t be able to leave port until the Coast Guard reopens the port.
