Viking Ocean Cruises has released a video documenting the Viking Star successfully completing sea trials in the Aegean Sea. The week long sea trials took place during December and marked a major milestone as Viking prepares to enter the ocean cruise market.
The Viking Star went through more than 80 different tests during the sea trials that tested out the ship’s navigation systems, engines, propulsion performance, and cabin acoustics. After successfully completing the trials, Captain Gulleik Svalastog said the ship was, “one of the most agile, state-of-the-art and seaworthy ships on the water, destined to exceed the expectations of the most well-traveled guest.”
The 930 passenger Viking Star is scheduled to debut in April 2015 and will be the first of three ocean cruise ships by Viking Ocean Cruises. Staterooms will start at 270 sq. ft. and include a king size bed, LCD TVs, large showers, and a private veranda.
The Viking Star will have enriching entertainment that will connect passengers with their destinations. The main pool will have a retractable dome with an additional glass backed infinity pool at the ship’s aft. The spa will keep with Viking’s Nordic heritage with a sauna and a snow grotto where light snowflakes will fall from the ceiling. Now through February 28, U.S. residents will receive an early booking discount that includes 2 for 1 pricing and up to $750 per person credit on international airfare.
