Royal Caribbean is tightening their cruise cancellation policy effective for all bookings made on or after April 8, 2018.
This new change by Royal Caribbean is to better align the cruise line with industry standards and to make the schedule simpler and more concise. The old and new cancellation policies can be seen below.
Old Cancellation Policy
Charges for cruises 1-4 nights:
- 75+ days to departure: No charges
- 74-43 days to departure: Deposit amount
- 42-29 days to departure: 50%
- 28-15 days to departure: 75%
- 14 days or less: 100%
Charges for cruises 5 nights and longer:
- 90+ days to departure: No charges
- 89-57 days to departure: Deposit amount
- 56-29 days to departure: 50%
- 28-15 days to departure: 75%
- 14 days or less: 100%
The above cancellation policy is good for all cruises booked before April 8, 2018.
New Cancellation Policy
Charges for cruises 1-4 nights:
- 75+ days to departure: No charges
- 74-61 days to departure: 50%
- 60-31 days to departure: 75%
- 30 days or less: 100%
Charges for cruises 5 nights and longer:
- 90+ days to departure: No charges
- 89-75 days to departure: 25%
- 74-61 days to departure: 50%
- 60-31 days to departure: 75%
- 30 days or less: 100%

Royal Caribbean stated that the reason for the change to their cancellation policy was to align it with closer to other cruise lines.
Uniform across the board, the policy will also apply to Alaska Cruisetours, holiday sailings and NextCruise bookings made onboard Royal Caribbean cruise ships.
