Norwegian Cruise Line Raising Daily Service Charges

Norwegian Cruise Line sent out an email to travel agents earlier today notifying them of an upcoming price hike to the daily service charges passengers pay.  These new rates go into effect on April 1, 2017.

The daily service charges make it easy for guests to provide gratuities to key onboard staff who provide superior guest service during the cruise, including their room steward, restaurant servers and behind-the-scenes support staff.  The new rates will be as follows for all ships except Norwegian Sky:

  • $16.99 per person per day for any suite or Haven category (up $1.49)

Daily service charges for passengers on Norwegian Sky will be as follows:

  • $18.99 per person per day for any category up to a Mini-Suite Stateroom (up $5.49)
  • $21.99 per person per day for any suite category (up $6.49)

Norwegian said that the reason for the large increase in service charges on Norwegian Sky was to “better address the demands of the enormously successful all-inclusive product”.

Any guest that has made a booking by March 31, 2017 will have the option of prepaying their service charges at the current rate if done prior to sail date. Guests with existing cruise reservations who have already pre-paid their service charges at the current rate are not affected.

  1. Just another of the many reasons i will never sail with that chinese owned cruise line, with their graffiti hulled ships

  2. Yet another reason we will no longer be sailing NCL anymore. From inconsistent service and food quality to onboard credits that have strict limitations to be narrowly used and now more of this Nickel and diming. Adios Norwegian!
