Two Cruise Lines Christen New Cruise Ships

Two cruise lines, Costa Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, christened new cruise ships this weekend.

On Friday evening, Regent Seven Seas Cruises christened Seven Seas Splendor, a cruise ship that defines luxury perfected. Legendary supermodel and actress Christine Brinkley served as the cruise ship’s godmother. The vessel is the fifth ship in the cruise line’s fleet and builds on Regents’s rich 28-year heritage offering guests An Unrivaled Experience with every luxury included.

At 55,254 gross tons in size and 735 feet in length, Seven Seas Splendor is Luxury Perfected. On board, the highest benchmarks of personalized service and comforts will be delivered by 551 professional crew members caring for 750 guests in 375 beautifully appointed suites, ranging from 307- to 4,443-square feet.  View Prices on Cruises on Seven Seas Splendor

Lavishly designed public spaces include five exquisite and unique restaurants and three elegant bars and lounges, while a $5 million curated art collection, more than 500 crystal chandeliers, and over an acre of Italian marble complement the ship’s sophistication.

The all-suite, all-balcony ship features more than 46,000 square-feet of Italian marble, and her 375 suites include nearly 52,000 square-feet of balcony space – among the largest balconies at sea. The beautifully appointed suites range from the 307 square-foot Veranda Suite to the lavish 4,443 square-foot Regent Suite.

Costa Cruises christened their new cruise ship, Costa Smeralda, in a ceremony in Savona, Italy earlier today. Penélope Cruz served as the ship’s godmother.

Costa Smeralda is the first ship in the Costa fleet to be powered both in port and at sea by LNG, meaning improved air quality and protecting the environment with the virtual elimination of sulfur dioxide emissions (zero emissions) and particulate matter (95-100% reduction). The use of LNG will also greatly lessen emissions of nitrogen oxides (85% direct reduction) and CO2 (reduction of up to 20%).

Featuring over 2,600 staterooms, Costa Smeralda takes its guests on a veritable “tour of Italy,” with lots of areas devoted to fun, flavors and festivity.

The ship’s name, Costa Smeralda, recalls one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in Sardinia (Emerald Coast), as well as the names of the decks and public areas dedicated to famous places and squares of Italy. The ship features 11 restaurants, 19 bars, an amazing spa area with 16 treatment rooms, a water park with slides, four swimming pools and an area fully dedicated to kids.

Costa Smeralda entered service on December 21, 2019. She is operating on a one-week itinerary in the Western Mediterranean with calls at Savona, Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Civitavecchia/Rome and La Spezia. This summer, the new flagship will also be calling at Cagliari, while a stopover in Palermo is planned starting in winter 2021/22.

Cruise Fever will be on both Seven Seas Splendor and Costa Smeralda next month.  Stay tuned as we bring you reviews of both vessels.
